As far as I can tell, you never want to work at any university unless you are a tenured professor or a college dean, every other university employee seems to get shit on.

I'm torn saying nice things about the U's law program. My father is a district court judge and went to their law school, but Rachel worked there for almost two years and it seems pretty shitty.

Yeah, I would certainly appreciate it if you could make any introductions or get me any relevant info. Like I said, I think Columbia is out of my league unless I hit a grand slam on the entrance exams, but it's still number one on my list. Aim high, I figure.

Also, if you want any materials or some such from Columbia, let me know. I'll also ask faculty and staff I know about contacts there and if there are any ways to boost your chances on getting in.

Yeah, Mormon's get about a %50 discount; the school states that because much of their funding comes from Temple Elders that they are justified in giving the discount only to other Mormons. That seems a little suspicious to me, but I'm not a lawyer... Yet.

All the same, as far as the US's top 100 law schools, BYU is still very reasonable. Even for non church-members it's damn near half the price of many other law schools amongst its ranks and their alumnus boast good employment and high salaries. But one of the things about your selection in law school is that it seems to determine a lot about where you'll practice afterward. I don't mind Utah, and for that kind of money I could certainly learn to love it a lot more, but I want a coast. West or East, either is okay by me. I'm still not too old to hope for the possibility of working in a big Manhattan firm, though I won't be buying any downtown condos just yet.

Can you take advantage of the low tuition at BYU without being LDS? I'm not being snarky, I'm really curious.

I'm looking into law schools myself and so I'll throw this in about BYU:  It's dirt cheap for the education you get.  The U of U is cheap too, but I don't think you can take advantage of all the low tuition unless you're a resident of Utah...

Isn't it magical how that works?  I'm totally in though.
