Fade to Black by Vince401

Preview By Tycho McKorley

Fade To Black is the mysterious and heavily-shrouded project of B*B's own master of rm2k, Vince. It's one of those rm2k games that isn't hyped up as much as it should be, but then that lends it an element of class and distinction. It's a game that is humorous at times and yet retains the aura of a dark mystery. Indeed, it is certainly an interesting combination of elements that anybody who is familar with the literary work of Vince is bound to enjoy it.

The game begins with a mysterious young warrior inside of a training school. From there, the player is instantly thrust into a story that both captures the imagination and leaves the player begging for more (I've only played a demo so far, and I was very angry when it ended! Hurry and finish it Vince). The story includes elemets of hatred, adventure and war- all elements that, when combined creatively, lend themselves to an RPG quite well. All in all, the initial impressions the player recieves from the game are positive and exciting.

Graphics and music within Fade to Black are constructed well and they compliment each other to a fairly high degree. The graphics aren't incredibly complicated, but they're not overly simplistic either. They fit into the game's world well and they do their creators credit. The musical selection in the game is classy and the it compliments the scenes from the games quite well. The game lacks a CMS and a CBS, but it uses the standard systems quite effectively (and remember that most CMS's and CBS's are quite poor). All in all, Fade to Black delivers quite adquately in the technical department.

Fade to Black has a world which is decidedly detailed and which fits the overall motif quite nicely. The game also includes all the necessary RPG extras, of course. The mini games (from what I've played thus far) are entertaining and creative. Puzzles from within the game are challenging, but they don't leave the player completely lost. Guest cameos also abound for a player who chooses to seek them. These cameos include people from the B*B staff to some of the strangest characters created. All in all, the game's details and extras offer both a rewarding experience and an entertaining one.

In conclusion, Fade to Black looks as though it will be one of the most promising rm2k games released this year There are some glitches the creator needs to iron out, but these should be fixed by the time the game is released this October. Keep an eye on this one kids- it looks like we have a winner.

Authors Comments:

Well Tycho has overhyped my game a tad. I'm honored that he liked it and I hope the rest of you do. In truth Fade To Black isn't anything special RM2k-wise. It has no CBS....no CMS. Frankly because I think the DBS and DBM work fine. They cause me no problems and with a little adjustments they can be quite excellent. If you're the kind of person that judges an rm2k game on Graphics (don't worry there's next to no rtp) Then stay away. I have some custom fighting systems including sniping and dueling. Hopefully you'll enjoy the rich story that I've created when I release Fade To Black in early october.
