The
Chase by Tomahawk |
Review
By Tycho McKorley |
|
The
Chase, by Tomahawk, was the winner of the Brotherhood
of Britannia's 'Create a Game in Five Days Contest.' As such,
this wonderful little RPG deserved a review not only because
it was the winner and this review is one of the prizes, but
also because this game was so well-done considering the producer
only had five days to created it.
Anyway, I'll
get started with the review as soon as I memtion that the
review for this game still falls almost completely under
the guidelines set forth in my review standard (which can
be found by clicking here).
The only major exception to this is that I couldn't expect
this game to be "the best ever" simply because it was created
in only five days. I therefore reviewed it as such. You

Graphics: The graphics of The Chase are
fairly average but, again, that is to be expected form a game
that was created in such a relatively short ammount of time.
They do, however fit fairly well into the general theme of
the game and everything is arranged nicely. There are a good
number of extras, though not as many as a typical game, and
everything looks snappy. Therefore, the game recieves a graphical
score of 8/10 (click on any of the images to see a larger
screen).
Music: The music of this RPG is truly a treat.
It has a latin flare to it and this really adds a great
deal to the game. It is continually bouncy and it fits perfectly
with each scene. Honestly, as the name would imply, The
Chase is a game that revolves around "being chased"
(I'll talk more about this later in the review) and the
music actually makes one believe that he/she is running
for their life. I recall that I felt myself getting more
and more excited as the music would begin to pick up its
pace and then I would find myself slowly calming as it reached
a more legato pace. For such a spectacular job on the music,
this game recieves a 10/10.
Gameplay: The Gameplay is fairly well done
and it definately fits quite well with the rest of the game.
The "chase" motif is executed well and things flow smoothly
from scene to scene. It can leave something to be desired,
but considering that there was a limit of five days for
its creation, it's not too shabby. The gameplay will be
granted a score of 7.5/10(click on any of the images to
see a larger screen).
Story: The story is fairly interesting and
the characters are somewhat diverse. Sometimes characters
seem to lack motivation for what they do, but again, this
is probably due to the fact the story had to be thrown together
so quickly. Everything seems to fit together and there is
an ending (I emphasize this because it was one of the most
important qualifications for the contest). The story also
seems a bit unorthodox (as far as RPG's are concerned) which
is definately a good thing in this case. Anyway, the score
the game gets for the story is 8.5/10 (click on any of the
images to see a larger screen).
Bias: I (I get to speak in first person in
this section becaue it's my bias toward the game)
must say that I found The Chase to be quite a charming
little RPG. It deserved to win the Brotherhood's contest
it simply was a good effort at making a game in five days.
My applause goes out to Tomahawk for creating this game
and I hope to see more quality from him in the future. My
bias score is 9/10 because I did find the game to be enjoyable.
All in all, The Chase is an excellent little RPG
considering the circumstances it was created under and it
definately deserves a little place in the heart of every
RM2k gamer who understands the difficulty of making a game
so fast. - Tycho McKorley
