| Talk
about a double bladed sword. DOOMS is the Uncut Uncensored
Unbug tested horror game released by Mr. Big T. The game is
Vulgar and disgusting and is obviously trying to be something
revolutionary. So lets start unravelling this strange and
unusual game...
Graphics: What Can I say here? RTP RTP RTP.
And so much of it you'll wish you had a coffee table to
slam your head against until you died. And if you have a
coffee table in your room.....it was nice knowing you. The
game does have it's share of imported chip and character
sets. The clown set for Jack was well done but things like
Bob, who was one of the RTP characters who just got his
hair colored gray didn't really cut my cake. There are imported
chips but they left a lot of map space open which as most
rm2k'ers know is an extreme sin.

Playability: Another part
of DOOMS that was lacking a bit more than we would have
liked to see was the fact that the game goes from dirt easy
(killing innocent people) to flat out hard and frustrating
(Anybody who isn't an innocent civillian) The very first
time you break out of jail with Jack the stupid guard monster
fight drags on just a big longer than I would have liked.
The bosses are incredibly hard and will leave most people
going into the editor.

Final Score: 8/20
Story: One of the few parts
of the game that redeems itself somehow. The game focuses
around Crazy old Bob and his insane clown pal Jack. Jack
is a clown and Bob is some weird old Pervert who caught
his wife in the sack with Alex dressed in a blue suit. Apparently
Bob doesn't like it when people other then himself pork
his wife so he kills them both and gets sent to prison.
Meanwhile Jack, who is a clown version of Michael Jackson
is sent to prison as well for killing children and probably
some other nasty stuff we didn't learn about. Then there's
Steve the brave cop/hud person who wants revenge against
Jack for killing his sister and burying Stevey alive for
watching. And for some reason Steve still doesn't like Jack
all that much. Go figure. The story is twisted and sick
and involves more than one sex scene. Personally I think
1 is too many for an rm2k game. The story is nasty and gross
yet somehow you'll keep playing it. I'm not sure if it was
to see the RTP people I hated so much get butchered or if
it was because there was some real insight into the mind
of serial killers. Either way it kept my attention long
enough to beat it which is more than most rm2k games can
say, so it gets a nicer score out of this.
Story Final
Score: 16/20
Music: Well from a horror
game, one would expect horror music. Which you get plenty
of. From the god-awful Halloween movie theme to themes from
The Candyman the game has tracks that do their job but are
easy to recognize and there's a couple RTP tunes shoved
in there which don't help.
Music Final Score:
13/20
Finishing The Job: Now my
opinion on DOOMS kept jumping around. I remember saying
to my friends on AIM while I played "Hey this game
is pretty good and entertaining." But then I'd have
this weird mood swing 10 minutes later and say "Wow
this game makes me want to hump a cactus and poke myself
in the eye with a drill." And then it went back and
forth. Personally the game ends in a rather abrupt place
in my opinion and you never really learn what the hell is
going on with the scientist guys. The game featured two
pixellated sex scenes and I guess if you can get aroused
by poorly drawn pixel sex then this may be the XXX game
of your dreams. The game despite being called a horror game
really held no horror. Corpses actually screamed after obviously
being dead. Which apparently made the whole thing scary.
After killing a kid he's still screaming 5 seconds after
he should have crossed over. If you can call character sets
with red splotched all over them and scream sound effects
scary then yes DOOMS is the scariest game in the world.
Nevertheless I got some enjoyment out of it so in this last
section it receives a decent grade.
Finishing The
Job Final Score: 17/20
FINAL SCORE:
61/100 = C
Grading Scale
100%-90% = A - Wow you truly
are god. Let me kiss your feet plz.
89%-70% = B - You've got
Kinks to work out but it's still a very good game worth
the time.
69%-50% = C - Meh it's not
bad but it's not great. You've still got a lot of work to
do.
49%-30% = D - Wow this really
is crap. This is so bad I've put an ancient death curse
on you.
39% and below = F - This
score shouldn't even be possible. Your game has to be the
worst piece of crap to ever grace this earth. I feel sorry
for you and if you ever have offspring let me assure you
they will be disgraced to know you once made a game this
crappy.
So in Final DOOMS has a lot of work to become
a contender to some other rm2k games out there. But if you're
looking for an hour or so to have a decent time DOOMS is
worth a look. It kept me busy and when I couldn't beat the
bosses I became so desperate I threw it into the editor.
So you know T did something right. |
