Idunn Ymilrador By Sovan Jedi Idunn Ymilrador By Sovan Jedi
Review by YoshiJRC
Idunn Ymiraldor is the second RM2K game by SovanJedi, following NigSek, A Monster's Tail. Like the aforementioned game, Idunn Ymiraldor is a mix of great custom graphics, an interesting story, and excellent gameplay.

Mikes house ain't it pretty? (2608 bytes)

The game starts with some kind of being involved in a chase through the universe. Apparently, he is trying to find a place to hide, and chooses Earth as his hiding place. I didn't fully understand this, but that might be due to the fact that this demo is rather short. I'm sure there's much more to be revealed, and I'm interested in seeing it. Anyway, after this scene, it breaks to Philadelphia, where we meet our protagonist, a 7th grader named Mike. Mike is... well, not your TYPICAL teenager, but his life is definitely believable. Mike has a father and an older brother, but his mother is deceased. He has one close friend, a girl named Christine, and two bullies who will stop at nothing to make Mike's life a living hell. It's all carried out well, for the most part. The only problem is that Mike sometimes seems a little too immature for a seventh grader.

The graphics in Idunn Ymiraldor are some of the best in RM2K. This is due to the fact that everything you see was made by Sovan himself, and it all looks great. It's a nice thing to see after seeing the same graphics used over and over in other Rm2k games. The graphics are very detailed, whether is be the posters on the wall or the robots you fight. Also, the characters have many poses to show their every action. The graphics are very well done, and I couldn't find one problem with them.

A Big Bad Boss (2608 bytes)

Next, music and sound. The music fits the mood well, and doesn't annoy. It's adequate, but nothing spectacular. The sound, both in battle and out, is placed well. Nothing special, but nothing wrong either.

The gameplay is another great aspect of this game. Idunn Ymiraldor contains one of the best adventure-type CBS' in RM2K history. Unlike many other games that have tried to use an adventure-type battle system, IY does it successfully, and there are few problems. Although it gets a bit slow during the first boss battle, it's still a very well made CBS.

Overall, it was a pretty short demo, but a still a good one. I look forward to seeing more of this game.
